School News Article August, 2010

It's back by popular demand! Mark your calendars for October 8, and plan to attend the Fountain Valley Educational Foundation's eighth annual "Taste of Fountain Valley", including for the second year, "Casino at the Club". Foundation volunteers are busy planning our annual signature event which is open to the entire community. Bring your friends and support our schools; it is the best value ticket in town!

Held at the Mile Square Golf Course Banquet Facility, the occasion will include delicious food from our local restaurants, a silent auction, and opportunity drawings. Back by special request, we will once again include the "Casino at the Club" featuring casino games and a special Texas Hold'em tournament. The evening will be highlighted by great music provided by our own music teachers, student performances, and local professional musicians. In addition, there will be a grand prize drawing, courtesy of Harrah's Entertainment Group, for a Las Vegas weekend worth over $1500. New this year, for those unable to attend, we will also have an online auction in the weeks preceding, which will close days before the event. For auction and ticket information, visit our new website at www.fvef.org.

Last year's "Taste of Fountain Valley" was well attended and helped raise funds for district-wide programs in the FVSD. The focus of the Foundation is to support valuable programs, including music and hands-on science, which have both recently been cut from the school district's budget. There has never been a more important time to support the schools in your community. It is becoming increasingly difficult for our schools to do "more with less". Whether or not you have children attending district schools, we all have a stake in the vitality of our neighborhood schools. As we all know, when the quality of schools decline, crime goes up and home real estate prices and commerce go down.

Anyone can join and support the Foundation; forms can be found at any of our school sites, the FVSD website or at our website. As the new school year begins, consider making a tax-deductible investment in your community by supporting your local schools. Please join the FVEF and partner with us as we strive to maintain quality education and help keep the FVSD the number one ranked elementary school district in the county!
